June 2012

June has been a month full of fun for us!  The summer heat has hit Las Vegas and we found a few ways to escape and have fun.

Fathers and Sons Camp Out

Jason took Jack to his first camp out this month.  Jason said Jack was in seventh heaven.  The marshmallow roasting, sleeping in a tent, fires, collecting sticks . . . all of it was a little boys dream.  They came home dirty and smelly - but it was well worth it!

 Jack's Swimming Lesson

Jack did SO well at swimming lessons this year.  The past two year have been torture - like crying-so-hard-he-puked-in-the-pool-kind-of-torture.  Luckily, Jack has matured a little bit since last summer and he absolutely LOVED lessons this year.  His teacher was so wonderful - she let him set up his audience (see the first picture) and then the rest of the lessons went better than I expected.  Good job Jack!  You will be a little fishy by the end of the summer!

 Jack and Mom's Date

Jack and I went on a little mommy/son date one Saturday afternoon.  We went to go see Madagascar 3 and we had a great time.  Jack had been so excited all day and the second we walked into the theater, he froze and told me he was "too tired and needed to go home and take a nap."  I could tell he was nervous and I convinced him to see the movie anyway.  He walked at a snail's-pace to the theater.  However, about 10 minutes into the movie as he was shoving popcorn, fruit punch and candy into his mouth he said, "This is so fun mom!  I love you!"  Ahhh . . . music to a mom's ears.

 Newport Beach Get-A-Way

This month Jason and I had an early anniversary trip.  In July we will have been married 10 years!  We decided a four day trip to the beach sounded like a good and reasonable escape, so Jason's parents came to stay with the boys (THANK YOU!) and Jason and I had a wonderful fun and relaxing time.  He surprised me with dinner at the Melting Pot in our own secluded room with roses and candles.  So romantic!  xoxo

We spent the days at the beach, shopping, eating yummy food, going to the New Port Temple and riding a ridiculosly dorky bike up and down the boardwalk.  The trip was WONDERFUL!

Owie-O

Little Owen isn't so little anymore.  This month's well check up found him at a whopping 25 pounds! (Jack is 29 pounds!)  He has developed such a fun and sweet personality.  He has started mimicking everything we say and loves to try new words.  His favorite right now are "Owen" "Thank you" and"Sorry."  It is darling to watch him grow and interact with Jack.  They fight like crazy but know how to play too.  I just love this kid!

Jack and Owen got some new sunglasses this month and they are just too cool for words!

 Church

Church with a three and one year old is TOUGH.  I find myself dreading the thought of finding ways to entertain them at church every week.  (shhhhh . . . )  However, we know how important it is for us to be there - so we go.  This is one of the best ways we have found to entertain them.

 

 Jack

Jack has had a few accomplishments this month too!  For starters . . . he (finally) pooped in the potty!  (He will hate me in years to come for this.)  We have struggled with this aspect of potty training for a long time and then one day Jack went in the potty!  He got the pillow racer scooter (in the pic below) as a reward.

Oh, and he also loved his blue tooth like his Pa!

All in all, I would say it was a pretty good month!

May 2012

May was madness in the Bailey home.  We did a bunch of really fun things and the month flew by.  Life seems to be leveling out a little more with the kids - but Jason's work schedule has been crazy.  Thank goodness we were able to find time to fit a few fun things in this month.

Jason and I did the Devil Dash 5k/obstacle course with a bunch of friends at the beginning of the month.  It was ridiculously difficult in the heat but we finished and had a blast.

Jack finished up his soccer season and I have to say - we were all a little relieved when it was over.  He and his friend Max had more fun wrestling and chasing each other than they did playing soccer.  Oh well, next year we will try again!

We also had a very dear and close friend to us pass away this month.  Our wonderful family friend and my dad's legal assistant of 27 years passed away unexpectedly.  We having all been grieving the loss of Kelley and the holes that her absence has brought to all of our lives.  She was truly a second mom to my siblings and myself.  I have felt so sad over the past week but one of the most comforting thoughts has been to think of Kelley and my sweet Gavin together.  I know she will be a wonderful Mama Kelley to him like she has been to us.  I love you Kelley!

Mother's Day was wonderful this year.  I know that I have been given the privilege of having three wonderful sons and they truly are the greatest joy in my life. 

On Memorial Day weekend we spent time at my parents' cabin in Southern Utah.  It was FREEZING!  The boys had a ton of fun exploring and running all over the place.  Jack took up his green tractor and he worked along with his Pa "fixing" stuff at the cabin.

When I think about Owen the words "a ray of sunshine" come to mind.  He is becoming more independent and can hold his own with Jack - but he is still the same sweet, sweet little boy.  He is so full of love and happiness.  Sigh.  I could just eat him up!

Oh my Jack Jack.  This kid has the most amazing sense of humor and knows just how to get me to laugh.  It's something he inherited from his father.  The other day I said a phrase I never thought I would say . . . as I got out of the shower I was drying off and Jack was standing right in front of my sticking his chewed gum into my belly button.  So these words ACTUALLY came out of my mouth, "Jack, get your gum out of my belly button."  Like I said, things I never thought I would say.  He also can be so sweet and genuine.  A few days ago I was carrying him up to his bed and I said, "Jack, what will I do when you are too big for me to carry?"  His response . . . "I will carry you then, mom!"  He knows just how to melt my heart.

We had a great weekend with my family doing the Ronald McDonald 5k Charity Run.  We took the boys with us and we all did great!  I even cut 8 minutes off the time I did at the Color Run in February!  WOOHOO! 
It is always so nice to do something in remembrance of Gavin.  Jason has TEAM GAVIN shirts made for all of us and we were happy to do something together that meant so much to all of us.

We wrapped up May in Salt Lake City with Jason's family.  Jack and Owen love, love, love their cousins.  We were able to attend Jason's mom's retirement party and spend a few days with family and playing with cousins.  It was a great time!

April 2012

 April was a busy month!  Jack started is first soccer team . . . and it went . . .well . . . it didn't.  He wasn't into the game at all.  He did well with the practices, but the games were a bit to chaotic for him.  Perhaps we will try again next year.

 We also went with Pa and Grandma Cindy to a 51's baseball game.  The boys had a WONDERFUL time and Jack was given a foul ball to take home!

Easter was so much fun this year.  Jack totally understood the Easter egg hunt and Owen loved to crawl around and shake the eggs to hear the candy.  Once he learned how to open them and eat the jelly beans, it was ON.  That kid shakes any egg he finds now.
