HELP!

See this picture? This is what Jack does ALL AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
Friday he cried from 1:00 to 6:30. I finally put him in the car and drove to my parents' house so Jason and I could get out for an hour or two.
And yesterday at church - as soon as he woke up he screamed and screamed. Mind you, this was our first Sunday in our new ward. I had to pick him up and literally run out of relief society because he was so disruptive.
Last night Jason looked at me and said, "I'm kinda scared of him."
But, please, don't misunderstand us. We love him like crazy. We are grateful for the miracle he is for our family. But I just don't know what to do to make him happy!
We have taken him to the doctor, we put him in the swing, we try to let him cry it out, we drive around the block, we take him on walks, we lay him down alone on a blanket, I nurse him, we give him a pacifier, we sing to him, we walk him around, we create white noise, we use mylecon, we rub his tummy and we give him lots and lots of love.
ANY IDEAS?

I've left a comment on your blog once before, but I'm sure you don't remember me. I'm so sorry! I read a book called "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and that helped a lot with our two kids. I totally recommend it. I hope this stage passes quickly!

I am so sorry! I wish I had some great advice, but I don't. It sounds like colic or acid reflux. With colic they usually out grow it and with acid reflux they have a perscrption. That stinks that your Dr. didn't have any advice. Also are you eating anything that could upset his belly? Chocolate, Tomatoes... etc. Well Lindsay, good luck and he is a cutie even in the screaming picture!

Quinn and I have been following your story and are so happy that you have a beautiful, healthy baby. My first little girl was fussy and I remember thinking that I would give anything if someone would just put her back inside me for a while. She was easier to take care of there! I know this sounds silly but has Jason given him a blessing? It certainly wouldn't hurt.

I work in a pediatrics unit in Texas. He probably has reflux. Try after you nurse him keep him at a 45 degree angle for a couple of hours. Just try not to lay him flat.

Congrats on your beautiful miracle!!!

Lindsay- I told Morgan this when she told me what was going on with Jack. It sounds like you need to change his medication. Even if he isn't spitting up a bunch or anything, his stomach could be hurting him from the reflux. Trust me...I HAVE BEEN THERE!!! Go to Dr. Sheikh (Advanced Adolescent Pediatric Gastroenterology). The man is a godsend I tell you. Tell them Heather Worthen sent you (Keller and Kyle's mom). He will know and he will know why you are there. I don't think you have to have a dr referral. I used to be against jumping to medication or overdiagnosing reflux...until I had two babies like that. It's not worth it or fair to anyone when they are that unsettled. He could also have a milk allergy adding to it. Both my reflux babies do. I think you said he is on Axid. Well, after that comes Prevacid at varying dosages. After Prevacid is Zegerid and only some doctors know about it. It's all that really worked on my kids. You can ask Morgan...for Kyle especially it was like having another baby. You would never know by all his smiling, happy pictures what an unsettled and unhappy baby he was while we tried out the different medications. Dr. Sheikh knows his stuff and I have had several other doctors and specialists speak very highly of him upon hearing that my kids went to him. Office staff...not so great. But he is worth it. Call me too. I can sympathize! Digestive problems show up and get the worst around 2-4 weeks of age. So if they are suddenly getting worse at that age then that is the problem.
sorry for being so long...

I'm so sorry Lindsey! I have a sister who swears by the book "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and I read it during my pregnancy and it made a lot of sense. It would be worth getting and trying.

I have never had a colic baby but I have had fussy boys. I think there is a test your pediatrician can do to determine if it is reflux, but if it was I think he would scream all the time. I think colic happens in the late afternoon. I have heard great things about The Happiest Baby on the Block. I believe it is 5 things you do that all start with the letter s. Some babies are just so fussy. I know some parents that get an exercise ball and sit on it and bounce while holding the baby. I have also heard that wearing them in a sling helps them. When my kids would get fussy, we would lay them facing out across our arm so our arm was on their tummy and then sway back and forth while bouncing. Good luck!

I don't know anything about reflux, but I have an idea that may or may not help. The BEST investment I ever bought for my daughter was a maya wrap, I would still use it to this day if she wasnt so big now but if you had one you could put him in the wrap and the way the are in there is like being back in the womb, when i had her in there as an infant all balled up it would have looked like i was still pregnant if i put a shirt over it! just a thought!

girl.....you are in luck....my little xander was EXACTLY the same way....we had to sleep in 1 hour shifts he cried so much.....with us it was my diet, i could not have anything w citrus at all including tomatoes, and in the end, my milk just wasnt fulfilling to him....there was plenty, it just didnt fill his little tummy, it was like skim milk! the second we gave him formula he was fine.....so we fed him both ways because i didnt want to stop nursing....that was w my baby though...they are all different and ya, just like everyone else said i know acid reflux is common in babies too.....hang in there! I agree with Jason...i was TOTALLY scared of Xander....seriously, I know where you guys are coming from!

I think you should go to a gastro doc. Maybe it is an allergy. I agree with Heather. I am really sorry. That is so hard. Madi use to cry from 2:30-4:00 am. So at least it is during daylight hours. She lived in her swing. Have you tried changing your diet?

You don't know me, but I have followed your blog for quite a while. My second daughter is four months old, and she was soooo fussy (colic). She would scream for hours, her little belly would feel rock hard, and she would kick her legs straight out. Gripe water (Little Tummy's brand) seemed to be the magic trick! She has outgrown it now, but it was so miserable not knowing what was wrong. Jack is absolutely beautiful... even in the screaming picture. ;) Good luck!

Jason cracks me up.

I would try Gripe Water too. Its great stuff. Aiden and Zack both had reflux. Zack also had some digestive issues. At 5 months old he went 10 days without a stool (and he was still breastfeeding exclusively!) My doc prescribed small doses of Miralax for the constipation, but the gripe water worked really well for his reflux. It eventually replaced the Zantac he was on. I never tried it with Aiden but I wish I had.
Jack is so precious! I feel for all 3 of you!!!

Hi Lindsey you don't know me but I know Jason. I went to High school with him. Someone just told me that you guys had a second child, and told me I had to check out your blog. My baby will be one on Friday. Two weeks after he was born he started screaming and I did not know what to do. I could not comfort him for the life of me. All I would do is cry and cry. I later learned that he had colic and a little acid reflex. Mylicon drops work wonders. The best things is their little body's don't absorb them so you can pretty much give them a lot. My doctor recommended giving them the drops before I nursed him and after. I also gave him malox after he ate. My babys doctor also had me go on a bland diet such as bread, white rice, crackers. It really seemed to help a lot. Hayden honestly was fussy for several months but eventually grew out of it. Some other things we did is hold him on his left side with his stomach facing outward on your arm. Also hold his legs up against his chest in a ball. Bath time was always very helpful.I feel for you. I was there for several months. Hayden is now such a Happy baby. Good Luck to you and Jason Both. Congratulations on your little man!

A good Chiropractor that can work on babies. We were unsure at first, but our baby boy had colic, screamed all the time and a neck muscle problem. Since the Chiropractor he is great. You won't regret it. Best of all you don't have to try any expensive medicines or formulas.

I've also heard of people taking their kids to a chiropractor. They said it was the best thing they did. The colic went away.

Good luck. He's absolutely adorable!!!

No ideas, but lots of hope! He won't be like that forever. :) It just sucks in the meantime.

Hi you don't know me but I love your blog. My daughter did this also. The only thing that worked was I stopped eating dairy (all dairy and anything containing dairy) for about six months. She was a much happier baby and I was a much happier mommy!!!

Hey, I'm one of Trish's friends. Have you heard of the "Miracle Blanket"? www.miracleblanket.com. I SWEAR by it. Wish I would have used it on my other 2 babies. Also, could you have an over-active let down reflex that is causing him to gulp air and be gassy? Just some thoughts. Pay attention to HOW he is eating...

Baby massage worked wonders on Austin and I still use it when he's cranky or "backed up" I learned it from a DVD called Mother and Baby Fitness that you can get at Target.

Try a CRANIAL SACRAL they are a form of chiropractor/massage.
No mainpulation just the gentle laying of hands...... Speak to any cranial sacral and they will tell you there wish is to be present in every delivery room. The trauma a baby goes through during birth can leave undetected issues that they can correct. As a mother or 3 children I swear by them My 16 still attends once a year and my 10 year old has digestive issues (was on daily malox) now after cranial treatments hes drug free...
