The Original 2009 Christmas Card

We had a Christmas card fiasco this year.
This was the original one, but it didn't make it out - a traditional Costco one did. :)

Even though Gavin was not on the Christmas card, he is always in our hearts. We speak of him often and miss him always.

I'm not the same "anonymous" who posted above, but I wanted to tell them that was a sad and hurtful thing to say, especially to someone who obviously fully includes both her boys in everything she does. The card is a beautiful depiction of a healing and happy family, whether you can "see" Gavin or not.

Dear Anonymous,
I think your comment is mean-spirited and very impolite. I can only hope that you regret writing it when you think about how you've twisted the knife that is already in Jason & Lindsay's heart. Trust me, they're pretty sad he's not on the card, too. Anyone who has lost a child knows that every "family" picture will never be complete. Anyone who has lost a child also knows that, like it or not, you HAVE to heal and we should all be thanking the Lord they have Jack to help them do that. Please do not mistake the absence of Gavin's physical body from the picture as the absence of Gavin from their hearts. He IS there...I can see him in their eyes and in their smiles and in his brother, handsome Jack. Can't you? Maybe you need to keep looking at that Christmas card until you can...because I assure you, he is there.

Dear Lindsay-
I want you to know that I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into blogging. Gavin's story is an eternal one- one that will always be a part of our lives. I love reading your blog because you have shared so much with all of us about your journey with Gavin. You have shared the grief, the pain, and the sorrow. Yet in your trial, you also found joy. I am grateful for your example. I am grateful you understand the plan of salvation and that you and Jason are moving forward. I am grateful that Jack is not forced to live in Gavin's shadow. I am grateful that you know the importance of living your life each day to the best of your ability. I do miss Gavin. And I always will. I appreciate that you still share those quiet moments of reflection with us. They are gentle reminders. I will continue to read your blog. And I will continue to enjoy reading it. Stories of holidays, birthdays, friends and family. Stories of Jack and stories of Gavin. Thank you for your strength and your courage. Please continue to bless our lives through your wonderful example.

There's always a 'daring' someone out there...I think you are an amazing mom, and even more amazing for leaving your blog open for the world to see your story. It takes alot to share what you've shared. Anyone who knows you knows the kind of mother you are that most of us (ME) would only dream of being. Unfortunately, there's always someone who is waiting for one opportunity to point something out that they think might get you down, but you are so amazing that it could never get you down. You rock, I love your little miracle family and Happy holidays!
